Students
and staff at the Maple Avenue Middle School raised $1,949.33 for the
American Red Cross and Hurricane Sandy victims with the help of some
brave faculty members who sacrificed their hair for the cause.
Left
to right are Stuart Byrne, principal; eighth-grade math teacher Kurt
Andress, who shaved his head to raise money for the relief effort;
eighth-grade science teacher Josh Nixon, who had his hair cut in a
Mohawk; eighth-grade social studies teacher Rick Fleming,
who shaved his mustache; and Gary Ferris, executive director of the
Adirondack/Saratoga chapter of the Red Cross. The teachers agreed to the
"makeovers" if the school reached fundraising benchmarks. The check was
presented on Nov. 21.
