ACC faculty donates $1500 to food banks

QUEENSBURY – The Faculty Association of Adirondack Community College (FAACC) presented a $750 donation to the Hudson Falls Bread of Life Food Pantry on Tuesday, Dec. 20. The Faculty Association also donated $750 to The Open Door Mission in Glens Falls. The donations mark the eighth consecutive year that the Faculty Association has donated to food banks or soup kitchens in Warren and Washington Counties.

During a brief check presentation, Kelly Chandler, a Bread of Life Food Pantry volunteer, thanked the Association for the contribution. She said, “The number of families in need is growing. In particular, we are seeing more extended families with five to eight family members.” According to Chandler, cash contributions have a greater impact because the Food Pantry can purchase large quantities of food from regional food banks at considerably lower costs. “$750 dollars can feed 300 people for two months because we are able to buy food at 16 cents per pound from the regional food bank,” Chandler said.
FAACC Community Relations Chairperson Kevin Ankeny said, “By making these donations, we hope to raise awareness for the important help Bread of Life and The Open Door provide. They are the primary food sources for many economically disadvantaged community members. While we are most aware of the need during the holidays, these organizations need support throughout the year.”
Donations to Bread of Life Food Pantry can be sent to: P.O. Box 187, Hudson Falls, NY 12839. Donations to The Open Door can be sent to: PO Box 3306, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
The FAACC is the collective bargaining organization that represents more than 200 full-time and adjunct faculty at SUNY Adirondack.
